Stepping Ahead

About Us

Both Laura and Glenda are primary school teachers with many years’ experience working with pre-school and primary aged children.

We provide a smooth, stress-free transition to the school environment for your child. Through lots of positive encouragement, your child will flourish and be proud of their successes. All this with the aim to increase confidence and independence and give your child the tools they need for school, in caring and supportive surroundings.

Individualised learning in a nurturing environment

Our wealth of experience and knowledge about how children think and learn has been poured into creating the Stepping Ahead Programme, where your child is gently guided through the learning process.

Open to 3 and 4 year olds, our programme offers an innovative 1 hour per week starter class where we work together with just 8 children at a time.

This enables your child to experience learning in a small group environment that is both stimulating and nurturing and allows us plenty of scope for meeting your child’s individual needs - we recognise that your child is unique and progresses best at their own level and pace.

A head start for school

In each action-packed class, we cover all the skills your child will need before starting school - the basic building blocks for listening, speaking, reading, writing, maths and following instructions.

Each lesson is tailored to your child’s level and based on a different letter of the alphabet.

Learning is broken up into small “chunks”, interspersed with stories, rhymes & games to reinforce learning and make the lesson as fun as possible.

The structure of the sessions allows your child to feel comfortable in knowing what comes next and what is expected of them. Your child has their own folder to take home and share with you their achievements. A great way for you to follow your child’s progress, this folder also includes take home readers and activities to reinforce learning.

Stepping Ahead is run from a hall centrally located in Takapuna, drawing children from all over Auckland.
