Nicolette (Nic) Norval is a qualified and registered child, adolescent and family counsellor working mainly in the Waikato Region. Nic has a Bachelor’s Degree of Applied Social Science in Counselling, Diploma in Child & Adolescent Psychology, Diploma in Challenging Behaviour in Children & Young People, Diploma in Body Language and is a Master Practitioner for International Neuro Linguistics Programming.
Nic is mother to adult twin boys. Although a busy mum while they were growing up, in Nic’s spare time she coached gymnastics to children between the ages of 3-18 years and was awarded the Waipa Women’s Award 2008 for changing children’s lives through gymnastics.
Nic’s interest in psychology and counselling developed over the years through meeting people from different countries, diverse backgrounds and ethnic groups. It fascinated her how our behaviours shape our actions, form our identities and ultimately our life stories.
Narratives of Life
Narratives of Life is an accredited supplier for Oranga Tamariki – The Ministry for Children, The Ministry of Social Development and Pinnacle Health or Midlands Health in the Waikato Region.
We also aid Women’s Refuge in Te Awamutu from time to time and provide counselling services to the New Zealand Defence Force (Veterans).
We accept private referrals and if required, we subcontract to trusted professionals to assist us in delivering our services. Narratives of Life takes the health and safety of children, young people, teens and their families very seriously.
We are committed to maintaining and implementing policies and procedures that help protect children, young people, teens and their families.
Younger people usually project their feelings through anger, bullying and tantrums. As a specialist provider for children, adolescents and teens we allow each young person to unfold their stories and the sequence it happened in. The helping process typically involves counsellor and client working collaboratively, using methods that may stretch beyond any single protocol or manual in a confidential and safe place.
When counselling young children, we specialise in a variety of modalities to suit your child’s needs. We engage primarily in art therapy, play therapy and techniques such as the ‘Tree of Life’ or ‘Three Houses’. These methods work very well as they allow the child to express his/her feelings through their art and conversations.
Our premises are located next to South City Medical Centre in Hamilton (not far from the Hospital). There is plenty of free parking at the rear of the building.
Our facility has a large reception and refreshment area.
Children will experience a warm, safe and comfortable environment where they can off-load and have fun at the same time. The room is decorated with a colourful and friendly theme and hosts a white board, pencils, crayons and paper – handy for drawing exercises. Two toy boxes are hidden in the room as well, just to create a fun atmosphere.
At Narratives of Life Counselling Services, we are focused on providing face-to-face counselling services with the highest levels of customer satisfaction and we will do everything we can to meet your expectations. Call us today to find out more.
