We are a private, not-for-profit foundation that was established in March 2005. Our Living and Learning Family Centres make it possible for us to provide support to New Zealand children, families, and communities, from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds.
Our early childhood centres are at the heart of each Living and Learning Family Centre, so that as we nurture and care for the growth and development of babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers, we are also able to develop and offer effective health, education and family services programs that provide integrated support for families.
Our mission is to create significant changes in the lives of New Zealand children, so that each child, even those living in adverse circumstances, have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The first family centre opened in Mangere, in 2009, followed by the opening of a second one in Henderson, in 2012.
With the generous donations that we receive, we’re able to provide substantial benefits, including, amongst others, assisting children with special needs, support with health, community projects and needs, and parenting programs.
How you help children?
Living and Learning puts a very high value on children and families and this determines the way we think and act within our early childhood centres.
Our centres have separate rooms for infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. Children are given the opportunity to participate in a range of fun activities including numeracy, literacy, science, extended outdoor experiences, phonics, home reading, creative arts, music, drama, visual arts and more!
The relationships your child has with those who care for him/her and the environment in which they spend much of their time in their early years, matters - not just in early childhood, but for the rest of their lives. So, our team will embrace your beautiful and competent child, value their cultural heritage, and provide kind, responsive care in a relaxed environment.
We recognise the importance of noticing what makes your child unique, recognising what they are interested in and enjoy doing – and then responding in a way that ensures we’re laying the foundations that will enable your son or daughter to thrive in their early years and transition confidently to primary school.
Whether you are returning to work, looking for ways for your child to socialise or want them well prepared for their transition to school, you’ll discover that at Living and Learning your child’s needs will be met at each stage of their development.
Your child will have daily opportunities to engage in language, music, dramatic and fantasy play, science, story-telling, maths, active movement, manipulatives, and construction. And woven into conversations, meal times, mat times and special one-on-one moments, your child’s self-esteem, self-confidence, and social emotional development will be nurtured.
Our team keep trust, respect, and relationships at the heart of our service. They are passionate about connecting with and supporting the children and families who use our family centres. In our innovative, well-resourced environments, your child will feel at home, safe, and nurtured through affectionate relationships.
We’re committed to providing creative, multi-cultural and fun-filled opportunities for your child to learn and have fun through exploration and discovery.
