Home From Home Childcare

About Us

Husband and wife team Anna and Colin our new owners have been running Montessori childcare centres for 16 years and they have an exciting new vision for Home from Home.

They are currently designing a specialised Montessori curriculum specifically for home based childcare and will be offering parents a choice of mainstream educarers or those with Montessori training – a ground breaking new concept in homebased care and education.

At Home from Home we really do believe in team work and people definitely come first with us. All educarers homes are safety-checked annually, they receive ongoing training and professional development courses, hold a current first aid certificate which along with police checks are upgraded every two years.

Communication between everyone involved in the care and education of the children is something we take seriously. We have made a commitment to send a newsletter to parents and educarers each term which will highlight future planning and learning outcomes from the previous terms. We also actively encourage first time parents to enrol as early as possible to ensure relationships with a prospective educarer starts well before care commences.

How we help children

When in home-based childcare, children play and learn alongside others in a mixed age group so babies and toddlers have older role models to learn from.

Children leave for school with a very rounded all-inclusive education and they have acquired wonderful social skills while in care with our experienced educarers.

Children develop the confidence to join in with other groups of children and adults knowing they will be accepted. The ratios at playgroups mean there are always plenty of adults for each curriculum area where they are able to encourage children to really get involved and stay interested, to share and reciprocate ideas.

Children are encouraged to make independent decisions about what they want to do, to use their unique imaginations, to represent their thoughts and ideas on paper using a wide variety of art media.

We provide literacy and maths rich learning environments acknowledging that the world around us, nature itself, is a good place for children to actively play and learn.

We provide two playgroups each week - one in Orewa and one in Helensville. Both playgroups are facilitated by registered early childhood teachers. Playgroups provide opportunities for children to socialise in larger groups and allows them take advantage of a wide range of activities using the whole early childhood curriculum which includes sand, water and dough play.

Trips to playgrounds, the beach, regional parks, bush and other nature trips further away are regular occurrences where children can really get in touch with nature, climb trees, kick a ball, play in the sand and paddle in the sea.

Supervision and safety are once again a top priority when our educarers take the children out and about in the community. We use the outdoor environments as much as possible where children can actively explore, run, jump, climb and have FUN!
