The Helen O'Grady Drama Academy presently helps over 70,000 children every week in 37 countries.
Helen O’Grady, a New Zealander, started after school classes in Australia in 1979. A trained teacher, drama teacher and actress, her aims were to provide a self-development programme through drama for children, to encourage ongoing confidence, self-esteem and verbal communication skills.
Debbie Napier, the Auckland Central and South Principal, is a registered teacher, with teaching experience in the primary and secondary sectors and 23 years teaching the Helen O'Grady Drama classes.
Debbie trains, co-ordinates and supervises a team of dedicated and enthusiastic teachers, passionate about drama and with specialist training in the Helen O'Grady Drama system. Most have teaching and theatrical experience gained in schools and the performing arts. Debbie says, “I love to see children blossom into the very best they can be and our program does that."
Drama Skills and More
We provide a safe, fun environment, managed carefully to ensure everyone respects one another. Every class has a full lesson plan, ensuring the children enjoy well run and structured classes.
No previous acting experience is necessary, the emphasis is on encouraging children to develop their imagination and enthusiasm at a level that works for them. In the fourth term, all classes present their end of year productions for family and friends.
Parents and teachers regularly tell us about the positive life changes, advanced social skills and improvement in academic ability they see in children who attend our programme.
Physical environment and atmosphere
Classes are held in schools and halls throughout Auckland.
Our classes are high impact and capture the attention of the children instantly. Children feel safe and readily grow beyond themselves in our warm, enthusiastic care.
Most importantly, our classes are fun!
We have an instalment plan helping you to spread the fees over the term.
If you would like your child to join the most popular drama academy in the world, to perform, learn to speak well, learn skills to help them on leaving school, and have great fun at the same time, then act now! Your child will develop the excellent social skills needed in everyday life.
As well as weekly classes, there are all sorts of other things going on in the Academy. Have a look at our Facebook page, in fact, why don’t you become a follower then you can add your comments to anything that interests you.
