Fame has been providing excellent preschool and afterschool care for the Whangaparaoa area since 2002.
Fame’s owner Lana van der Harst has created a loving community at Fame which brings all staff, children and their extended families together to provide a supportive and friendly environment.
Connections between families are encouraged at events such as regular fish ‘n’ chip nights, mum’s weekends and the end of term shows.
Lana has a special passion for dance, music and performance, and believes they encourage confidence in children, and develop a healthy aptitude towards learning.
The skilled teachers at Fame provide education following Te Whaariki – the National Early Childhood Curriculum. Learning is adapted to the individual needs of each child and their individual interests are pursued and encouraged.
The team of teachers at Fame have been together for many years, with very low staff turnover. This reflects the family-like feel of the centre as staff, children and parents alike are valued as part of the team.
Along with providing excellent early childhood care, each of the Fame teachers have an area of specialty, and they develop extra activities and projects to engage the children in these areas, for example gardening, cooking, music etc.
As Fame grows into the new purpose-built centre during 2014, additional staff will be very carefully chosen to compliment the team, bringing with them their own special area of interest and skill.
Fame offers a special opportunity for children to rehearse and perform in a production at the end of each term. Each morning and afternoon session during the term, a qualified performance teacher takes each age group for a lesson in dance, drama or music, and helps them prepare for the show.
The teachers all participate in the shows, in full costume and lead the children as they perform. This provides a non-threatening and fun environment for children to experience different styles of music, learn to play instruments, gain confidence and have a great time!
Early in 2014 Fame moved into a stunning new purpose-built centre, just up the road from the previous one. Lana spent countless hours researching and working with top designers to produce an amazing environment which excites and engages both children and parents.
The new centre maintains Fame’s open-plan layout where all ages are able to interact and learn from each other. Special areas are allocated for babies including a quiet zone, and an outdoor area with a sensory path encouraging gross motor skills. High staff-to-child ratios ensure excellent care and attention.
