Collective Talents is owned and operated by Helen Bakker who started her creative and sewing journey from the age of 5 and has many years of sewing and craft experience as well as designing her own range of products for sale. In June 2015 she opened Collective Talents, a working studio, Brother NZ sewing dealership & local in-house design products for sale.
Operating from a shop in Orewa, Auckland, the business relocated to home in June 2017 and classes are being offered at several local locations.
This will enable easy parking, drop off access and minimal travel while covering the HBC, Orewa and Millwater area. Helen is also a mobile tutor and an authorised Brother NZ Ltd dealer and can visit and demonstrate at schools, community groups and individuals.
Since Collective Talents opened Helen has specialised and developed children's class projects with great success. The children quickly become self-confident in using a sewing machine, increasing their self-esteem, proudly showing their creations to family, friends and school teachers. Children also utilise decision making and math skills to enable them to design and construct. Group and individual lessons fully include the use of a sewing machine, project material and equipment.
By selling and supporting Brother NZ sewing and design products and machines, we can support your purchases and your training.
We encourage upcycling, recycling and zero waste design practices and still work within the local community and resource centres to reduce landfill.
Our studio is fully equipped with sewing and cutting tables, sewing machines and overlocker, ironing and sewing equipment. There is tea/coffee and toilet facilities available.
We are located in Stanmore Bay which is on the school bus route. There is a drop off area and some parking available on site. Other locations are offered close to schools.
A warm and friendly teaching environment with individual attention is a high priority to us. All children are given choice within their project making.
