Auckland Netball Centre

About Us

Serena Somlyai is our Development Programme Officer and has been working at Auckland Netball for three years. Serena comes from a background of organising children’s programmes and her last role in Wellington was working with an organisation who ran child-specific programmes. Serena loves working with children and she is a big kid at heart who loves to get involved in the activities. During the holiday programmes you’ll find Serena amongst the kids playing all sorts of sports and activities.

Serena has a solid staff base who work on a casual basis some during term-time and some during the school holidays. A lot of her staff are trainee teachers (or teachers who work for her during the school holidays) and experienced representative netball players. Our programmes are run by experience coaches and Serena takes great care in selecting staff and organising all our programmes to ensure she has the best staff on-board

How we help children

A typical term-time netball clinic is 45 minutes long with a focus on improving netball skills. These clinics are great for those who lack confidence or those who want to take their skills to the next level. Classes and sessions are adjusted based on the level of participants and what their requirements are.

The holiday programmes consist of Netball, All Sorts of Sports, Multi-Activity Mania, Become an Umpire and Kids Cooking. Some of these programmes run all week and some are half a day. Children are encouraged to learn, participate, and have fun. Each programme is carefully planned to ensure the children get the most out of it and to ensure that new things are learnt every day. The programmes are suitable for boys and girls from ages 5 – 12 years old except for Become an Umpire which is focused on ages 12+.

Our Summer and Winter netball leagues run throughout the year. Schools enter teams however we can assist individual players if they wish to join a club team.

Our specialised one-day netball clinics are run primarily through autumn and winter and they are an opportunity for players who love netball to get specialised coaching. These are aimed at all levels and coaches are excellent.

Kids will love the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in our fun and inclusive environment.

Our physical environment

Auckland Netball Centre, St Johns is a fabulous multi-purpose indoor and outdoor facility. We have rubberised and lit outdoor courts and indoor courts which can lend itself to a variety of sports/activities. We have over 800 free carparks, several bathrooms, and an onsite café which (during competition days) is a great place for parents to have a tea/coffee and watch games of netball or activities.

We also have a facility at Windmill Road, Mt Eden with outdoor courts and an indoor function room which is used during the school holidays where we offer our netball programme. Our Mt Eden facility has on the street parking, bathrooms, and a canteen.

Safe & friendly atmosphere

All children who attend one of our programmes have a great time, take away a lot from it and want to return.

Children and families are welcome at Auckland Netball and we endeavour to make everyone feel at home. Parents are welcome to attend and support children at the netball clinics however you can be assured that they are safe whilst in our care.
